Click here to view the full results from '2010 MORLEY AUTO GROUP ECHUCA MOAMA TRIATHLON' The Weekly Write-Up (25.11.09) This week saw 42 competitors venture down to the “Mighty Murray” for this week’s race comprising a 300 metre swim, 9km ride and a 1.8km run. First into the water were Jayne Weedon, Dane Wales, Phyl Smith and youngster Jackson Lowry with the rest of the field following at regular intervals. Dane Wales was first out of the water and quickly on the bike followed closely by Jackson Lowry. Back in the river the rest of the field were swimming hard trying to make up time on those out in front. With everyone now out of the water and on their bikes the race was starting to heat up. Turbo, Shane Roberts and Gary Norman had their trusty steeds wound up and were picking off fellow competitors one by one all hoping to be crowned fastest male. Also in the pack Simone Costello-Manning, Anne Pitcher and Kathryn Keer – Keer were staging a 3 way battle for the fastest female of the night. Meanwhile back at the head of the field, the ever improving Jayne Weedon had taken the lead and was first back into transition and off on the 1.8km run, closely followed by Jackson Lowry, Dane Wales, Craig Sutton and Ben Ridge, the race was shaping up for a cracking finish. Transition was now a hive of activity with a steady stream of riders coming into transition and heading off quickly on the run. The lead changed again with Dane Wales getting to the front and hanging on to cross the line first by 17 seconds from Craig Sutton with Ben Ridge third. All interest was now on who would have the fastest male and female times for the night. Kathryn KK, with the fastest run time of the night a smoking 6 minutes 11 seconds, managed to knock off Anne Pitcher this week by 43 seconds with Simone Costello-Manning 15 seconds further back. This little battle is getting hotter each week. The tussle for the fastest male was also being keenly contested with Turbo, Shane Roberts and Tank Lowry, who was being cheered on by his new fan club from the pram, valiantly trying to hang on but Gary “Stormin” Norman had other ideas cruising the run home in 6 minutes 12 to claim bragging rights for the week by 34 seconds from Roberts. This week’s winner of the voucher from Paul at “On Your Bike” went to lucky finisher in 13th place Rod Nilbett. No doubt we will see Rod at the next race with some added bling on his bike, maybe some spokey dokes or some streamers on the handlebars to make him go even quicker.
